Midnight Moments - Review

2026-07-30

You know what my biggest problem with building scale models is?

Running out of shelf space. 😭

Seriously. I absolutely love putting together all kinds of models and dioramas, but eventually you reach the point where you start looking around your apartment wondering if you *really* need a TV taking up all that valuable display space.

So when I first saw Midnight Moments, my immediate thought was:

"Okay... maybe digital dioramas are the solution to all my problems."

Midnight Moments - Review
Luckily, my business partner Keymailer had the game available in their catalog, so I requested a key. A few weeks later I received the approval email, and let's just say... I was way more excited than any reasonable person probably should be about a game where you build tiny cyberpunk neighborhoods.

And honestly?

Cozy level: Extremely high

Midnight Moments has exactly the kind of relaxing atmosphere I look for in cozy games.

No deadlines.
No objectives.
No pressure.

You simply build your own little corner of a neon-lit city, place buildings, shape sidewalks, decorate the streets, and before you know it... an hour has disappeared because you've been debating whether a single street lamp should be two grid spaces to the left.

That's exactly the kind of game this is.
It's incredibly easy to lose yourself in it.

But after a while, some limitations start to appear

The longer I played, the more I noticed a few things that held my creativity back.

The biggest one is object rotation.

At the moment, every element rotates in 90-degree increments. Combined with fairly strict grid snapping, it sometimes feels difficult to place objects exactly where you'd like them. There were plenty of moments where I simply wanted to rotate a bench just a little or move a decoration slightly to make the scene feel more natural.

Another thing I'd love to see is better citizen customization.

The citizens are randomly generated whenever you place one, and while that's perfectly fine, I'd really enjoy having a few extra options. Let me change their outfit colors, give them different poses, sit them on chairs, or even hand them a coffee cup.

Is that asking too much?

Maybe.

But little details like these are what truly bring a diorama to life. If features like this were added, my personal score for the game would easily go up by a couple of points.

The atmosphere is where the game truly shines

Visually, Midnight Moments is absolutely my kind of game.

The combination of charming low-poly visuals and soft ambient music creates a wonderfully relaxing mood. Sure, if you zoom in ridiculously close, you'll start noticing the simplicity of the models...

But honestly?

That's not how you're meant to experience a diorama.

The real beauty comes from stepping back and looking at the whole picture. Rain-soaked streets, glowing neon lights and cozy little city corners come together to create scenes that genuinely feel like living lo-fi album covers.

One important note

I played a pre-release version of the game.

That means many things could still change before launch. Features may be improved, expanded or even completely replaced.

Right now, my biggest criticism is the relatively small selection of decorative assets. After a few hours, I felt like I had already used most of what was available.

And honestly...
I just wanted more.

Which is probably a pretty good sign.

Final thoughts

If you've played **Dystopika**, Midnight Moments will probably feel very familiar. The scale is smaller, but the core idea is similar: creating beautiful cyberpunk dioramas entirely at your own pace.

This is exactly the kind of game you boot up with a warm drink, your favorite YouTube playlist playing in the background, and absolutely nowhere else you need to be.

Is it perfect?
Not yet.

Does it have tremendous potential?
Absolutely.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on its development because if Happy Volcano expands the building tools, adds more decorative assets, and gives players a little more creative freedom, Midnight Moments could easily become one of those cozy games I keep coming back to.

Even if it's just to spend another hour moving a single bench a few inches.

And honestly?
I don't see anything wrong with that. 💜
