Steel Soul Shaper – playtest first look

Sometimes I think to myself: “Man, it’s a shame I was born too early to live in a cyberized world with futuristic gadgets.” But hey… what are video games for, right? 😄

Steel Soul Shaper – playtest first look

Steel Soul Shaper puts you in the role of a technician repairing futuristic cyber devices. It sounds simple at first, but I quickly realized the game is about much more than taking machines apart and replacing components.

The biggest surprise for me was the story.

I don't want to spoil anything, but I genuinely became invested in the characters and their conversations. It's honestly rare for a game's narrative to hook me these days, so that alone made a strong impression.

Visually, the game embraces a clean minimalist style that fits its cyberpunk atmosphere perfectly. It doesn't rely on flashy graphics, yet every little detail feels carefully crafted and pleasant to look at.

The repair gameplay is surprisingly satisfying. Disassembling devices, replacing parts, and putting everything back together feels intuitive and rewarding. I especially enjoyed the painting mechanics. In many repair-focused games, painting can feel awkward and frustrating, but here it’s noticeably smoother and much easier to control.

And well… as you can probably tell from my screenshot, I finished the playtest with my entire workshop burned to the ground. 😅 Apparently that’s just one of four possible endings. Maybe you’ll make better choices than I did!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time with Steel Soul Shaper. The story kept me engaged, repairing futuristic devices was genuinely satisfying, and the overall atmosphere made it difficult to put the game down.

Will I buy the full release?

That depends on the final price. If it feels fair for the amount of content, I'll happily pick it up because I'm definitely interested in seeing where the story goes next.
