I have to admit something.

I was not expecting this announcement today.

Not even a little.

There are a few gaming franchises that instantly take me back to my childhood. Spyro sits right alongside Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, and Heroes III on that list.

Which is why, when I saw the reveal of Spyro: A Realm Beyond, I genuinely had to double-check whether it was some incredibly convincing fan project.

Turns out...

It's real.

Spyro is back.

And it looks like he's coming back bigger than ever.

The biggest surprise for me is the direction Toys For Bob decided to take. Instead of relying purely on nostalgia, the studio seems determined to evolve what it actually means to play as a dragon.

For years, flight in Spyro was something special.

Specific levels.

Special moments.

Short bursts of freedom.

Now?

The developers are promising true dragon flight. Not gliding. Not limited flying stages. Actual flying with the ability to dive, climb, and freely explore the world from the skies.

And honestly?

That sounds exactly like the evolution this series needed.

The story setup sounds promising as well. Spyro becomes stranded far from home and, during his journey back, finds himself caught in a conflict involving mysterious invaders known as the Scavs. Naturally, things escalate and our favorite purple dragon once again finds himself trying to save an entire realm.

Thankfully.

Because let's be honest.

Spyro without saving the world would feel a little strange.

What excites me most, however, is the philosophy behind the project. The developers repeatedly emphasize that they do not want to simply recycle nostalgia. They want to create a genuine new chapter that works both for longtime fans and for an entirely new generation of players.

That is an ambitious goal.

But if anyone can pull it off, it is probably Toys For Bob.

After Reignited Trilogy, they already proved they understand what makes Spyro special.

Now they have a chance to push the series even further.

Am I excited?

Absolutely.

Am I cautiously optimistic?

Also yes.

Did I immediately add Spyro: A Realm Beyond to my wishlist?

...maybe.

Okay... Definitely...

If you grew up collecting gems, rescuing dragons, and charging into absolutely everything that moved, I have a feeling the coming months are going to be very exciting.

Now if you'll excuse me...

I need to go find my old Spyro save files.

For research purposes, obviously.
